Disappointing Products

How devastating is it when you invest your hard earned pennies into a makeup product, expecting it to transform you into Cinderella, only to turn out more Ugly Stepsister? I could weep bitter tears over it, but I'll moan to you instead. I'd love to know if you've tried any of these products, and if they worked for you!

Technic Highlighter Stick in Blush
When I picked this up in a discount store, I thought I had hit the jackpot. It was around £1.50, and the micro fine shimmer and flattering shell pink shade gave me the impression that the creamy highlighter would far outweigh its bargain price tag.

Sadly, my hopes dwindled down to micro fine, too, when I swatched the stick and found the subtlest sheen known to man. It was as if the minute specks of shimmer were actually too small to reflect the light, and created a flat, weak wash of pearly pink instead.  I had thought that the creamy formula and chubby stick style would make this an easy and versatile product, but I can't see any way to make it work for me.

Rimmel Kate Moss 107 Lipstick
With Zoella being a similarly ghostly shade to myself, I thought this bold berry shade would suit me as well as it does her. From clips of her wearing it, I saw that it was smooth and pigmented, yet would stay put, thanks to the matte formula.

Unfortunately, all the dark hue and matte formula gave me was a serious case of cat bum lips. Gutted.

Primark Stick Foundation in Ivory
I don't think Primark have ever seen ivory. It's that stuff that old piano keys are made of, and if you look closely, you'll see that they're a creamy shade, not orange, which is how this deceptive disaster translates on my skin!

The formula didn't work for me either, it was very dry and almost sticky, dragging my skin when I tried to blend it. Disappointing as a foundation, but surprisingly good as an emergency under eye concealer. Repackage it and you're onto a winner, Primark.

Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Permanent Taupe
I'm not disappointed in the product as such, more by its purpose. I had read numerous posts online claiming that this was a great eyebrow pomade, lasting on the face and offering an ashy tone to suit most brows.

Well, the people giving out that handy hint must really enjoy sparkly eyebrows, because this shade is full of fine shimmer! If you enjoy cool toned eye looks and want a great base or just a long lasting wash of colour, this is a great pick, but for me and my brows, it was a total flop.

My Fat Mad Teenage Diary, Rae Earl
I feel awful saying that Rae Earl's diary isn't as gripping as the TV series, because I wouldn't want a real person to experience the trials Rae faces in the adaptation, and I understand that her real life didn't have a full production team. If I'd read the book first, I would probably have enjoyed it more, and while I do still appreciate that Rae Earl spoke about mental health and set the ball rolling for the series, it's just not as I had hoped.

  1. PS beauty products in general at the moment, I completely bought the hype, and although I know they are cheap they still weren't worth it for me :(
